Ozark Trail Stove Recall: How to Check If Yours Is Affected

Walmart Ozark Trail stove recall — how to check if your stove is affected

If you own a small butane camping stove from Walmart, it’s worth checking it against a recent recall before your next trip. In November 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Walmart was recalling roughly 201,000 Ozark Trail camping stoves after dozens of units exploded or caught fire, some causing second-degree burns.

Here’s exactly which stove is affected, why it’s dangerous, and what to do if you have one.

What Stove Is Being Recalled?

The recall covers the Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stove, model number BG2247A1. It’s a compact single-burner stove designed for camping, tailgating, and backyard cooking, meant to run on small butane canisters rather than a full propane tank.

You can identify it by:

  • Color: Dark green body
  • Logo: Orange “Ozark Trail” branding on the front
  • Model number: Printed on a gray label inside the fuel compartment (you’ll need to open the compartment to see it)

These stoves were sold exclusively at Walmart, both in stores and on Walmart.com, from March 2023 through October 2025, at prices between $8 and $45.

Why Was It Recalled?

According to the CPSC’s recall notice, the stoves can explode or catch fire during normal use, creating a serious burn and fire hazard.

The manufacturer, China Window Industry Co., Ltd. of Taipei, Taiwan, had received 26 reports of stoves exploding or catching fire at the time of the recall. 16 of those reports involved injuries, including second-degree burns. Walmart, which imported the product, is handling the recall and refund process directly.

The recall was issued on November 26, 2025, and it’s an official CPSC recall, not just a Walmart return policy or a product review flag.

How to Check If Your Stove Is Affected

  1. Find the stove. If you bought a compact butane camp stove at Walmart between 2023 and late 2025, dig it out of the camping gear.
  2. Check the color and logo. Look for a dark green body with an orange “Ozark Trail” logo on the front.
  3. Open the fuel compartment. The model number is on a gray label inside, not on the outer casing.
  4. Match the model number to BG2247A1. If it matches, your stove is part of the recall.

If you’re not sure whether your specific stove matches, Walmart’s recall page and the CPSC listing both include reference photos you can compare against.

What to Do If You Have a Recalled Stove

Stop using it immediately. Don’t wait until your next camping trip to swap it out, and don’t try to keep using it “carefully.” The failure mode here is sudden, not something you can necessarily see coming or manage by being careful with it.

Once you’ve confirmed the model number, here’s the process:

  • Take it to any Walmart store. You don’t need the original receipt or packaging.
  • Request a full refund. Walmart is refunding the purchase price for all recalled units returned this way.
  • Call Walmart customer service if you have questions: 800-925-6278 (7 a.m.–9 p.m. CT), or visit walmart.com/help or the Walmart corporate recalls page.

There’s no repair option offered for this recall. The remedy is a refund only, which suggests the fix isn’t something that can be reliably done at the component level.

Should You Worry About Other Ozark Trail Products?

Not necessarily. This recall is specific to the Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stove, model BG2247A1. Ozark Trail is a large private-label brand sold at Walmart covering everything from tents to coolers to other stove designs, and this recall notice does not extend to other camping stoves, grills, or gear under the same brand name unless a separate recall is issued for them.

That said, if you own any small butane or propane appliance, it’s worth periodically checking the CPSC recall database by product type, since fuel-burning outdoor gear is one of the more common recall categories.
